Hamburg prosecutors detained an 18-year-old man on Thursday on suspicion of indirect murder and grievous bodily harm. The arrest followed a tip provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Officials confirmed the charges on Friday.

The suspect is accused of leading a 14-year-old girl from Indiana to take her own life. Prosecutors stated that the girl was psychologically fragile when the suspect began influencing her between September and October. At that time, the suspect was 17 years old.

According to the Hamburg public prosecutor's office, the suspect operated within an online group called Nefarious Maniac Kult, or NMK. This group is part of a larger global network known as COM. The suspect used the Discord platform to exert influence over the Indiana victim.

Prosecutors allege the suspect pressured the girl to cut herself. She was also required to write the letters NMK on a wall using her own blood. The victim sent video recordings of these acts to the suspect. Days later, she hanged herself in her bedroom.

The suspect is further accused of requesting a video of her death. Prosecutors said he believed such footage would increase his standing within the group or assist in his admission. The Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Unit identified the suspect as a contributor to the juvenile's death.

FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Timothy J. O'Malley stated that his office shared information with German authorities to facilitate the arrest. O'Malley said, Anyone who targets or exploits a child should understand this: There is no safe haven from justice. The FBI will work with our partners around the world to find you and hold you accountable.

The bureau reports a 300 percent increase in cases of nihilistic violent extremism from September 2024 to September 2025. FBI Director Kash Patel noted that many of these cases involve a group called 764. Members of 764 encourage self-harm and violence without adhering to a specific ideology. They often urge victims to create videos documenting their acts.
