Raiders supporters transformed MetLife Stadium into a hostile environment during a 38-33 win over the Jets on Sunday. The visiting team’s fans drowned out the home crowd in the second half, creating conditions that resembled a road game for the New York squad.
Left tackle Olu Fashanu cited the noise as a factor in a false start on third-and-five. He said he struggled to hear quarterback Geno Smith calling the snap count. Fashanu accepted responsibility for the penalty, stating he must be locked in regardless of the environment. He credited the Raiders fans for traveling well but insisted the crowd size was not an excuse.
The Raiders had not played the Jets in a full season since 2019, leading to high anticipation from the visiting fan base. The Raiders began the season with a 3-0 record before falling into a four-game losing streak. Their presence in East Rutherford was palpable from the pregame period through the final quarter.
Cornerback Eric Stokes encouraged the fans to increase their volume in the fourth quarter. The crowd responded, overwhelming the local supporters. Head coach Klint Kubiak praised the fans for their support, noting the building was filled with silver and black attire.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn identified a specific moment that shifted the stadium’s energy. The Raiders scored a touchdown on a 95-yard kickoff return in the first half to take a 14-13 lead. Glenn said the play sucked the life out of the building and reversed the momentum he believed the home fans had established.
Receiver Garrett Wilson said the team must handle the noise as a home side. He noted the Jets are 2-6 and must give their fans a reason to attend. Quarterback Kirk Cousins called the fan support a pleasant surprise. He described using the crowd’s reaction to confirm a touchdown after being hit on the play.
The final score left the Jets with a 2-6 record, while the Raiders extended their winning streak. The crowd size at MetLife Stadium was 70,080. The result stands as the Raiders’ third victory in four games this season.
