Samsung is set to release its final foldable device for 2026 on October 29.
The Galaxy W27 will launch exclusively in China, according to leaker Ice Universe. The device features a glossy blue back and gold accents surrounding a triple-camera array. This design distinguishes it from the standard international lineup.
The W27 is a rebranded version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. It matches the top-tier model in specifications and design. This follows a yearly tradition where Samsung releases a specially packaged variant for the Chinese market. The W series typically takes the year's top foldable and adds extra flair.
The choice of the Ultra model as the base stands out. Samsung usually bases the W series on its standard foldable. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a new shape that is resonating with customers. By using the Ultra for the W27, Samsung prioritizes its high-end hardware for this regional release.
Wide-format foldables are gaining traction in China. Competitors like Huawei have released wide foldables for a longer period. Xiaomi's latest device also uses a similar form factor. The W27 aligns Samsung with this growing preference in the local market.
The leak arrives as Samsung emphasizes the success of its current foldable lineup. The company states the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a hit and notes that the iPhone Duo has increased attention on its products. Analysts predict foldable display shipments will rise by 44% in 2026 due to the arrival of these wide designs. Samsung has also updated several Galaxy devices to Android 17.
If the leaked date holds, the W27 will be the last new foldable from Samsung in 2026. The company has other foldables planned for next year.
