Four people were hospitalized after a vehicle fired shots outside a boxing venue in Loganholme, Queensland, late Saturday evening. Queensland police received a call at 8.15 p.m. reporting gunfire from a moving car near a licensed premises. The vehicle was seen driving away from the scene. Paramedics transported the four injured individuals to the hospital for treatment and assessment of their conditions.
The incident occurred at Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road, which was hosting the Logan City Titles Fight Night. The event was scheduled for the evening and drew a crowd of local residents. Deputy Commander Chris Stream of Queensland police described the scene as "confronting" in an interview with the Today show. He confirmed that multiple people sustained gunshot wounds. Officers have not yet identified the suspects, and they remain at large.
Logan mayor Jon Raven said the shooting sent a shockwave through the community. He told the Today show that residents were frightened and that the area had not experienced such an event before. Raven noted that the venue is typically a family-friendly environment where many children attend. He said the incident would have a lasting impact on those present, adding that it is "the opposite of what he'll want to see" for the organizer's goals.
Raven stated that the night was organized to help steer children away from violence by using boxing as a tool for empowerment. He said the organizer aims to reconnect young people who might be struggling. The mayor expressed his thoughts to the victims, staff, and everyone at the event. He emphasized the community nature of the gathering.
Logan City Titles released a statement on social media on Sunday morning. The organizers described the incident as heartbreaking for a community event designed to showcase local talent and hard work. The statement said, "These types of incidents have no place in the boxing community or any part of the broader community." The group highlighted the skills of the fighters and the support of the audience.
Police said they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public. They urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact them. The investigation into the drive-by continues as officers review evidence from the scene.
