Lindsay Clancy has been under constant suicide watch for three years, according to her civil attorney. Rosemary Scapicchio disclosed the details in a video interview with CBS Mornings, which aired on Monday, November 2. The interview was posted to Facebook on Sunday, November 1.
Scapicchio stated that Clancy has been on a one-on-one watch at the state hospital in Tewksbury, Mass., since she was admitted. The attorney explained that hospital staff cannot leave Clancy alone due to concerns about self-harm. "They've had her in a one-on-one suicide watch for over three years," Scapicchio said.
The attorney described the psychological burden Clancy faces while hospitalized. Scapicchio noted that Clancy lives with the knowledge that she hurt her children. "If given the opportunity, I have no doubt in my mind that she would take her own life," the attorney added.
Clancy, a native of Wallingford, Conn., faces three counts of first-degree murder in the Jan. 24, 2023, deaths of her children. The victims were Cora, age 5; Dawson, age 3; and Callan, 8 months old. The killings occurred at the family home in Duxbury, Mass., while Patrick Clancy was away from the house.
The prosecution argues that Clancy planned the deaths and exhibited controlling and manipulative behavior. The defense has maintained that Clancy suffered from postpartum psychosis during the incident and was not criminally responsible for her actions.
