Apple plans to release iOS 27.2 to the public next week. This update serves as the primary software push for most iPhone owners, as the earlier version 27.1 was restricted to the specific iPhone Duo model. The release introduces three major changes to how users handle video calls, audio content, and streaming media on their devices.

The most visible change affects FaceTime group calls. In the previous version, iOS 27, the Dual Capture feature allowed users to show both the front and rear camera views simultaneously. However, that capability was limited to one-on-one conversations. Under the new rules, the feature extends to group calls. On compatible hardware, tapping the Flip button activates the rear camera while keeping the front camera active. This allows participants to show their surroundings and their face at the same time during multi-person video chats.

Apple has also reorganized the Apple Podcasts application. The current Up Next queue, which lists upcoming episodes at the top of the Home tab, is being divided into two distinct sections. The first section, named New Episodes, will list the latest releases from shows the user follows. The second section, Continue Playing, will appear directly below it. This new area aggregates shows that a listener has started but not yet finished, providing a centralized list for unfinished audio content.

The 9to5Mac reporter tested the new layout in a beta build. The writer previously described the old Up Next list as cluttered and confusing. After reviewing the updated interface, the reporter concluded that the split design helps users track their listening habits more effectively.

The Apple TV app on iPhone is also receiving user profiles for the first time. While these profiles have existed on tvOS devices for some time, they are new to the iOS ecosystem. After installing the update, users will encounter a profile selection screen upon opening the app. This screen can be disabled if the user prefers not to use it.

Once profiles are enabled, the app modifies its content recommendations based on the selected viewer. If a child’s profile is active, the app restricts visible content to age-appropriate series and movies from Apple. This setup keeps the adult’s viewing queue separate and helps prevent children from seeing unsuitable material when using a parent’s device. In total, the update includes new features across six iPhone apps.
