Apple released iOS 27.1 on the night of October 22, but the update is available only for the new iPhone Duo. Users holding any other iPhone model will not see this version in their software update menu.

If you check the settings on a standard iPhone, the list shows iOS 27.0.1 as the current latest version. Apple is bypassing 27.1 for these devices entirely. They will jump straight to iOS 27.2 when that release arrives.

This split release is rare for a point update. Usually, minor version numbers roll out to every compatible device at once. In this case, Apple kept the 27.1 build separate to manage the launch of the Duo.

The company unveiled the iPhone Duo last month, but many technical details stayed hidden until recently. By skipping the standard beta cycle for 27.1, Apple kept specific features under wraps until the device officially launched. It also simplified internal testing by isolating the Duo's custom designs from other hardware.

iOS 27.2 has been in beta for about a month. It is scheduled to reach all users next week. The update includes Suggested Actions in Messages, a new icon and design for Apple Music, and user profiles for Apple TV. Apple Podcasts gets a new Up Next queue, FaceTime adds Dual Capture for group calls, and Siri gains support for more languages.
