A Hampton, New Hampshire, man was arrested Sunday morning after a high-speed pursuit on Route 101 that ended with a foot chase. Police reported that the driver was traveling at approximately 115 mph when the incident began.

Alexander Hyatt, 26, was pulled over by a Hampton officer at 3:12 a.m. near the Route 101 interchange. According to Hampton Police, Hyatt continued eastbound instead of stopping and turned north onto Ocean Boulevard. The chase continued until his vehicle struck a median curb near Rocky Bend, which disabled the car.

Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and attempted to take Hyatt into custody. He exited the vehicle and refused to follow their commands. Police stated they used less-lethal measures to gain compliance, but Hyatt reentered his car and tried to drive north. The vehicle moved a short distance before breaking down completely. Hyatt got out a second time, refused to comply again, and ran on foot.

Hyatt was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless operation, disobeying a police officer, and resisting arrest. He was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation, where he was medically cleared. He is currently being held at the Rockingham County jail pending an arraignment scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m.

Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno noted that the situation could have ended differently. He said that combining impaired driving with excessive speeds creates a greater risk for everyone on the roadway. Reno added that impaired driving puts lives at risk and has no place on local roads.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Police said there was no property damage beyond the damage to Hyatt's vehicle. The investigation into the chase is ongoing.
