The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Chargers 24-9 on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, securing their first consecutive victories of the season.
The game began with an historic level of offensive stagnation for the home team. The Rams gained just 24 yards on their first 15 plays. They failed to reach a first down on their first five drives, a milestone that had not happened in the career of head coach Sean McVay.
The Chargers took an early lead. Justin Herbert threw two interceptions while passing for 257 yards. His defense allowed the Rams to stay within striking distance. The visitors remained winless, extending a 0-7 start that marks their worst beginning since 2000.
Quentin Lake set the tone for the Rams early in the contest. He intercepted a short pass from Herbert and returned it 45 yards. That play set up the opening field goal for Los Angeles.
The Rams did not manage their first first down until the final moments of the first half. They trailed 9-3 when Matthew Stafford completed a 40-yard pass to Tutu Atwell. Shortly after, Kyren Williams ran untouched for a touchdown with 19 seconds remaining in the first half.
The momentum shifted decisively in the third quarter. Blake Corum rushed for a 23-yard score after gaining 55 yards on the drive. Later in the period, Puka Nacua caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Stafford.
Stafford finished with 157 passing yards and a touchdown. Nacua had 11 receptions for 80 yards. The Rams now hold a 4-4 record. The Chargers dropped to 0-7, remaining the only team in the NFL without a win.
