Pueblo weather models show an abrupt shift from an 80-degree high to weekend highs in the 50s as a cold front arrives on Friday, Oct. 23.
The forecast for Pueblo lists a high of 80 and a low of 52 for Friday. Morning temperatures began in the 50s, with cloud cover breaking to allow sunshine by 10 a.m. along Interstate 25. The front is expected to bring additional cloud cover and generate storms farther south. On the south side of the city, the chance of rain Friday sits between 10% and 20%, a figure that rises substantially over the weekend.
Temperatures across the region will fall as the front moves from west to east. Colorado Springs is forecast to reach a high of 73 and a low of 47. Saturday highs in the area will cap out in the 50s. Canon City could see a few afternoon showers, with rain chances between 20% and 30%. The high there is 75 and the low is 49. Woodland Park is expected to see a high of 58 and a low of 39, with afternoon clouds following morning sunshine.
The Monument and Tri-Lakes area will reach a high of 69 and a low of 43 on Friday. Saturday highs in that zone will also drop into the 50s. Farther south, Walsenburg and Trinidad are expected to hit 73 and 74 degrees, respectively, with lows of 49. Friday is the warmest day for those locations in the next seven days. Weekend highs in those towns will fall into the 50s.
The eastern plains may see thunderstorms return by Friday evening after a sunnier start. Afternoon temperatures in that area will range from the 70s to the 80s, with lows in the 50s. Mountain forecast highs are in the 60s and lows in the 30s. Lingering moisture and flooding remain concerns in southwestern Colorado, where water levels may take time to recede.
Conditions are expected to become calmer next week. The forecast calls for sunshine, some partly cloudy skies, and temperatures gradually warming into the 60s. The preliminary Halloween outlook lists temperatures in the 50s and 60s with dry weather, a projection that could change as the week progresses.
