Katie Suarez, a 28-year-old bank teller, is currently on life support at NYU Langone Hospital after being declared brain dead. The incident occurred on Friday night on a stretch of the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. She was running alone when the attack took place.

Police sources indicate that Suarez had just finished her shift at a TD Bank branch in the Bay Parkway mall in Gravesend. She left work around 6:30 p.m. and met her mother nearby. This was a routine family tradition. Her father usually joined them at that time, but he was late arriving that evening. Suarez changed out of her work uniform and into athletic gear. She handed her clothes to her mother and then headed west toward the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

Suarez is a graduate of Brooklyn College and Kingborough Community College. She is originally from El Salvador. According to her family and police sources, she may have been training for the New York City Marathon scheduled for Sunday. Her planned route started on Bay Parkway and was intended to end at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Bay 8th Street.

Around 8:00 p.m., Suarez’s father called her to arrange a meeting spot. He told her he and his wife were still near the bank. Suarez replied that she was about a mile away, a distance that corresponds to five minutes of jogging. Police sources noted that the conversation showed no signs of distress or alarm.

When Suarez did not appear at the agreed-upon location, her father called again. She did not answer. The parents split up to search for her. Her father eventually found her near the intersection of Bay 17th Street and Shore Parkway. He found her stabbed twice in the neck, once on each side. He asked a passing pedestrian to call 911.

Suarez managed to run approximately 98 feet after sustaining the wounds before collapsing. Blood was found splattered on a nearby railing at the scene. Detectives believe the attack was random. They noted that her mobile phone and jewelry remained with her, which suggests robbery or a sexual motive is unlikely.

Gianluca Frances, Suarez’s 19-year-old cousin, spoke to the New York Post on Sunday outside the hospital. He stated that the true culprit will come to light. He described the situation as a truly terrible moment and said he hoped the monster who attacked his cousin faced the worst outcome. He suggested she could have been running in preparation for the marathon.

Police have launched a search operation to identify the person responsible for the stabbing. Suarez remains on life support at the hospital. Her family is waiting for the results of the ongoing investigation.

The attack happened on a popular running route along the waterfront. The area is typically busy with pedestrians and cyclists. The victim had been running alone for nearly an hour before the incident. The police are reviewing security footage from the area to find leads.
