Cowboys Host Eagles in a Fight for Division Relevance
Two struggling NFC East teams clash Monday night as both sides seek a winning start to keep their divisional hopes alive.

The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are set to collide on Monday night in Philadelphia, with both teams entering the game at a 2-4 record. This matchup is critical for both franchises as they attempt to claw their way back into the NFC East race. Given the current weakness of the division, a turnaround remains a realistic possibility for either side if they can secure a victory.
The division landscape has become unusual in recent weeks. The New York Giants currently hold the lead with a 3-2-1 record, but they are not far ahead. In the past two weeks, every team in the NFC East played two games and none of them won a single contest. This marks the first time since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger that a division has seen such a collective lack of victories over a two-week span.
Philadelphia is facing significant hurdles, currently on a four-game losing streak, their first of that length since 2020. The offense has been particularly stagnant, scoring just 58 points across those four losses. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is out for the season due to blood clots, placing the burden on Tanner McKee. McKee had only two days of first-team practice before last week's loss to Carolina, but he has had a full week to work with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion this week.
The Eagles' running game is also in disarray. Saquon Barkley has missed time with a hamstring injury, and his backups are also dealing with injuries. Last week, Dameon Pierce was the only running back to carry the ball for Philadelphia, rushing for 35 yards. The Cowboys' defense has allowed 4.7 yards per carry this season, which could be a favorable matchup for a struggling Eagles backfield.
Dallas has its own issues to resolve. They rank 30th in the league on defense under first-year coordinator Christian Parker. On the offensive side, they have scored fewer than 20 points in consecutive starts for Dak Prescott for the first time since 2019. Owner Jerry Jones stated at the NFL fall meeting on Wednesday that he does not expect further coaching changes this season, describing the recent hiring of Mike Pettine as a strategic move.
Several individual milestones are also on the line. Javonte Williams is close to matching historic rushing touchdown marks, while CeeDee Lamb is third in the NFL in receptions and closing in on 8,000 career receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one catch to reach a career milestone. The Cowboys are favored by four points and have won the last meeting, but the Eagles have a chance to shift the momentum.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN. Following this game, the Eagles travel to Washington on November 1 before hosting the Giants. That upcoming stretch of games will likely determine if either team can still save their season and contend for the division title.
