Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni will start Joe Milton at quarterback for Sunday's game against the New York Giants. This marks the third different starter for the Eagles at the position this season.

The Eagles have lost six straight games. The team's struggles are compounded by a wave of injuries and roster changes. Starting quarterback Jalen Hurts is out indefinitely with blood clots in his lungs. Lane Johnson, one of the best offensive linemen in NFL history, retired abruptly after Week 4.

Tanner McKee initially stepped in after Hurts' injury. However, the Eagles will turn to Milton for the Week 9 contest. The Eagles are currently without their top four running backs due to injuries. Tank Bigsby is on the injured list but eligible to return at any time. He underwent core muscle surgery in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams and could miss up to two months. Will Shipley is on the injured list and eligible to return after Week 9. He suffered a Lisfranc injury and has 57 yards on 20 carries this season. Dameon Pierce is on the injured list and eligible to return after Week 12. Cam Skattebo is the only healthy running back available for the game.

The Giants also face major absences. Starting quarterback Jaxson Dart is out for the season. He tore the MCL and meniscus in his left knee, plus sustained damage to his PCL, during the Week 2 loss to the Rams. Jameis Winston filled in initially but has been replaced by J.J. McCarthy. The Giants traded for McCarthy after Dart's injury.

The Giants' defense has lost several key players. Edge rusher Brian Burns is out for the season with a torn ACL and meniscus. He suffered the injury in Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans. Burns finished second in the NFL in 2025 with 16.5 sacks. Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux are now starting on the edge. Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is out for the season with a torn chest muscle. He had 50 tackles and 2 sacks through six games in 2026. Defensive end Chauncey Golston is out with a serious neck injury. Roy Robertson-Harris is out with a torn Achilles he suffered during OTAs.

Running back Tyrone Tracy is on the injured list with a hamstring injury. He had 19 carries for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns in seven games before landing on the list. Wide receiver Calvin Austin III tore his ACL before the season started. Running back Gunner Olszewski tore his Achilles during OTAs. Charlie Jones is serving as the Giants' primary return specialist.

The Eagles' injury report for Wednesday showed that usual players who have not practiced recently are still out. Jalyx Hunt and Jonathan Greenard were listed as limited. Jake Elliott appeared on the report but participated in a long kicking session during the media-attended portion of practice. He seemed to be striking the ball fine, suggesting he may have been injured later in the session.

The Eagles and Giants meet on Sunday for the Week 9 game. Both teams are managing rosters depleted by long-term injuries and sudden departures. The Eagles are looking to stop a six-game skid. The Giants are trying to build on their performance while fielding a reshuffled lineup at quarterback and on the defensive front.
