Cuyahoga Falls is set to launch a major upgrade to its public spaces this weekend. The city will officially open the revamped RiverLoop and the South Front Street Transformation on Saturday, October 24. This event marks the completion of a project that has taken more than a year to finish. The goal is to provide residents and tourists with fresh ways to experience the Cuyahoga River and the downtown area.

The total investment in this initiative stands at $7.1 million. The primary feature is a three-quarter-mile route that connects the riverfront directly with the commercial corridor along Front Street. Mayor Don Walters will lead an official tour of the new infrastructure at noon on Saturday. The broader community celebration is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Downtown Pavilion and Plaza located at 2085 Front St.

Construction crews spent the last year overhauling the physical structure of the boardwalk. The lower wooden section beside the river received a complete rebuild. Walters described the work as including a brand new foundation and new boards for the entire lower portion. Above this, a new concrete walkway now exists. This upper path is wider than the previous version and meets accessibility standards for people with disabilities.

The new route includes several key amenities for visitors. Scenic overlooks and public art installations are part of the design. A stage facing the river serves as a focal point. Colorful artwork and built-in seating surround this stage. Walters noted that this specific area had previously been underutilized. He stated that the space can hold well over 100 people and offers a perfect backdrop for events.

Local business owners are closely monitoring the impact of the project. Hope Soap is one such establishment located along the route. The shop produces soaps, lotions, and skin care products. Owner Nathan Walden emphasized that everything is made by hand in the store using natural ingredients. He believes the new walkway will draw more foot traffic to the area. Walden called the project a potential game-changer for local commerce.

The RiverLoop features ten specific points of interest. These stops provide information about local wildlife, such as bald eagles and river otters. They also cover the history of the Cuyahoga River. QR codes at each location lead visitors to additional digital facts. Walters highlighted one specific detail for the public. He noted that many people do not realize that every drop of water in the river is on its way to Niagara Falls and the Atlantic Ocean.

During the noon tour, guest speakers will stop at various locations to explain the stories behind the features. Visitors can pick up a map of the RiverLoop at the event. They may join the mayor's tour or explore the path independently. Members of the architectural and construction teams are expected to attend. City staff who worked on the project will also be present. Light refreshments will be available for guests.

Walters plans to officiate a wedding at a venue within the RiverLoop during the celebration. Although the opening event occurs during pleasant autumn weather, the design is intended for year-round use. Walters stated that the attraction is not meant to be seasonal. He emphasized that visitors can enjoy the space throughout the year.
