Residents in three Long Island villages have scheduled separate ceremonies for Wednesday, Nov. 11, to mark Veterans Day. The events are set to take place in Mineola, East Williston, and Williston Park, offering local communities specific times and locations to pay tribute to U.S. armed forces veterans.

In Mineola, the village is planning its annual observance at 11 a.m. in Mineola Memorial Park. The ceremony is open to all residents and members of the public who wish to attend. Organizers are encouraging community members to participate in the tribute to local veterans and their sacrifices.

Williston Park will begin its recognition earlier in the morning. The village has set its ceremony for 10:30 a.m. at Village Hall. This event is designed to honor men and women from the local area who have served in the military.

East Williston is hosting two distinct events on the Village Green. The primary ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and invites residents to gather and express gratitude for local service. Later that evening, at 6 p.m., the village will hold a flag retirement ceremony in coordination with local scouting troops. This ritual allows for the proper disposal of flags no longer suitable for display while educating younger generations on flag respect.

Following the flag retirement, East Williston will host a reception at Village Hall. This gathering specifically honors members of the recently disbanded Williston Park VFW Post 1688. The event recognizes the years of service and community contributions of these veterans, acknowledging the organization's long history in local observances.

Veterans Day is observed annually on Nov. 11 to honor those who have served in the U.S. military. The date marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. All three villages are encouraging families and neighbors to attend the local observances to participate in the recognition of those who have served the country.
