Ukraine Frontline Drone Defense Restored to Full Speed
Defense officials confirm stable high-speed connections after days of throttling that hindered drone operations.

Ukrainian military units regained full data transmission capacity by the morning of October 24. The restoration of high-speed satellite links removed a bottleneck that had slowed logistics and limited the deployment of reconnaissance drones along the front line.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that both Starlink and Starshield systems are now operating at speeds above 400 km/h. Prior to the final recovery, experts recorded stable connections at speeds exceeding 161 km/h. These figures represent a return to the baseline performance levels required for effective command and control operations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the public in a video statement to mark the resolution. He noted that speeds began recovering overnight and reached necessary levels by morning. Zelenskyy stated, "Starlink and Starshield are back to operating at the speeds they were capable of before these restrictions were imposed. Now we have the speed we need."
The disruption had affected multiple sectors along the line of contact for several days. During that period, equipment operated at capped speeds between 130 and 161 km/h. Zelenskyy explained that these lower rates interfered with supply lines and reduced the effectiveness of jet-powered Shahed drone defenses.
The political context of the bandwidth limits remained a point of discussion in Washington. On October 16, US President Donald Trump asserted that the White House was not involved in the decision to limit the system. Meanwhile, The Telegraph reported that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk proposed the bandwidth restrictions to Trump, citing the need to manage network resources for Ukrainian military use.
