The Washington Commanders overcame a disorganized opening period to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 on Sunday night in Landover, Maryland. The victory marked Washington’s first win in more than a month and snapped a streak of six losses for Philadelphia.
Washington started the game poorly, committing multiple penalties that allowed the Eagles to take a 10-0 lead. Saquon Barkley scored a 3-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter, while quarterback Tanner McKee threw for 212 yards without a score in his third start of the season. The Eagles were held to just 199 total yards before their final drive.
Washington’s offense found its rhythm after the initial struggle. Jayden Daniels threw for 217 yards and one touchdown, connecting with Stefon Diggs for an 8-yard score in the second quarter. Kicker Drew Stevens added four field goals, including a 56-yard attempt late in the first quarter. The Commanders defense recorded five sacks and one interception, limiting the Eagles to 268 total yards for the game.
Coach Dan Quinn said the team needed time to warm up after a bye week. “When you come off of a bye, you either rev right up or you need a minute to warm up, and we took a minute,” Quinn said. Daniels noted the win was a relief after a series of injuries and setbacks. “It’s a blessing from God just to go out there, and everything I’ve been through in my career so far,” Daniels said.
The Eagles have fallen to last place in the NFC East, while the Commanders remain two games behind the first-place New York Giants. Nick Sirianni, the Eagles’ coach, acknowledged the team’s difficult stretch. “I know nobody feels sorry for us, that’s for damn sure,” Sirianni said. Barkley added that opponents are now giving their best effort against Philadelphia.
Both teams suffered injury setbacks during the game. Eagles safety Michael Carter left with an abdominal injury, and Commanders running back Jeremy McNichols limped off in the second half with a left foot injury. The Eagles will host the Giants on Sunday, while the Commanders will host the Los Angeles Rams.
The game featured numerous penalties from both sides, including a missed field goal by Jake Elliott due to an illegal formation penalty. Washington’s final drive included a hard hit on Daniels, who remained in the game to help secure the win. The Commanders finished the night with 27 consecutive points scored.
