Democratic candidates secured control of both chambers of the United States Congress following the midterm elections held this Tuesday, marking a historic shift in power that occurred just days before the Russian government issued its latest diplomatic assessment.

Dmitri Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian presidency, declared on Wednesday that the Kremlin anticipates President Donald Trump will sustain his diplomatic efforts toward ending the war in Ukraine. Peskov made this assertion during an interview with Yunashev Live, a Telegram channel aligned with the Kremlin, emphasizing that the American president remains in office regardless of the legislative outcome.

"President Trump continues in power, we sincerely hope that he persists in his peace efforts," Peskov stated. He noted that preliminary work has already been completed and that a new round of trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States is scheduled to take place soon. The spokesperson also cited the successful humanitarian initiatives led by First Lady Melania Trump as a factor he expects to continue.

When questioned about the potential for the newly Democratic-controlled Congress to obstruct these diplomatic processes, Peskov characterized the issue as an internal matter for the United States. He argued that the legislative body does not directly dictate the executive branch's foreign policy decisions while the current administration holds office.

This position aligns with comments Peskov made on the preceding Monday, when he argued that Trump would continue to define international policy until the end of his term, irrespective of the midterm results. The Russian leadership appears to be focusing on the continuity of the executive branch rather than the changing composition of the legislature.

The election results, which are still being tallied, show Democrats winning key Senate races in Texas, Ohio, Kansas, and South Carolina. This outcome guarantees the party a majority in both the House and the Senate, reversing the Republican control that existed prior to the vote.

President Trump addressed the results in an interview with The New York Times, where he stated his acceptance of the outcome. He expressed a willingness to work with the new congressional majority, signaling a cooperative stance toward the incoming legislative leadership.
