Twenty-one British film, television, and games professionals received the BAFTA Breakthrough award on Wednesday. Netflix, which has backed the program for seven years, announced the 2026 cohort. The selection marks the 13th year of the initiative, which provides career support to individuals in the early stages of their professional development.
The group includes performers Ella Bruccoleri, known for The Other Bennet Sister, Sophie Stone from Falling, and Izuka Hoyle, who appeared in Prisoner. The list also features writers, directors, casting directors, and game designers. BAFTA stated that the selected individuals have worked on highly acclaimed projects over the last year. The cohort spans specific craft roles, including production design, hair and makeup, and creative direction in the gaming sector.
Jane Millichip, CEO of BAFTA, described the program as a platform for supporting talent across all three screen sectors. She said the initiative is designed to give these creatives the support and connections needed to build lasting careers. Anne Mensah, vice president of U.K. content at Netflix, stated that the group represents a wide range of names. She noted that supporting this cohort is part of Netflix's Generation N commitment to new and mid-career talent in the U.K.
Participants in the program receive year-round support, one-to-one meetings, and career guidance. They also gain access to industry networking events and full BAFTA membership. Since the program's inception, more than 330 people have participated. These alumni have achieved national and international recognition, including over 200 BAFTA nominations and more than 80 wins. Many have gone on to develop their own features, games, or television shows.
The full list of honorees includes Hollie Bryan, a producer for The Ceremony, and Louis Paxton, writer and director of The Incomer. In the games category, Eloise Singer was recognized for The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters, and Husban Siddiqi was named for Rogue Eclipse. Philippa Mumford, production designer for Juice season 2, and Yassmin Abdel-Magied, a writer for Emmerdale, are among the television recipients.
BAFTA North America plans to reveal the Breakthrough U.S. talent later this month. The U.K. announcement precedes that global reveal. The program continues to focus on individuals who are on the cusp of a breakthrough moment or in the midst of one. The 21 selected names represent a mix of established and emerging voices in the British entertainment industry.
The list includes Chris Lynch, presenter and producer for In the Driving Seat, and Myrid Carten, writer and director of A Want in Her. In the documentary sector, Runako Celina was recognized for Death in Dubai. The cohort also includes Tom Payne and Lucy Allen, both casting directors for Sunny Dancer. Niru Fekri-Arnold was named for creating Cursed Words, while Tom McKay was recognized for his work on Mysteria Ecclesiae.
