Joe Fagnano will start at quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Jesse Minter confirmed the decision on Tuesday after both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley were ruled out with injuries.
Fagnano, 25, made his first NFL start after entering the field for both injured players during Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Jackson exited that game with a thumb injury, while Huntley left due to a toe issue. Fagnano also recovered from a separate ankle problem before the call.
The quarterback did not receive a selection in the NFL Draft after playing for UConn and Maine. He earned a roster spot on the 53-man list following a strong preseason performance. In his only previous game action, Fagnano completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards and threw one interception.
The Ravens have not set a date for Jackson's surgery or a specific return timeline, though the team expects him to be out for a long stretch. To manage the short week, Baltimore signed Kedon Slovis to join Fagnano and Austin Reed in the quarterback rotation.
The team also moved kicker Tyler Loop to the injured list due to a groin injury. The changes leave Fagnano as the primary option for the upcoming contest.
